How Lorne Dawson commits Sociology

Today CBC has featured Professor Lorne Dawson (Sociology and Legal Studies) in two articles and one video. Over the past few years Prof. Dawson has increasingly appeared in national media providing insight and expert commentary on homegrown terrorism and the process of religious radicalization.

The 5-minute video features Prof. Dawson giving a clear summary of how these social issues and associated security concerns have developed in Canada and internationally in the past decade or more. He identifies several factors leading to radicalization, including: globalization and the Internet; an immigrant background; quest for significance; willingness to take risk; influence of a charismatic leader.
