About the Board of Directors
The UWSA Board of Directors is responsible for the Association’s governance, financial health, and long‑term strategy. While the operations team (staff, the presidents, and volunteers) manage our day‑to‑day operations, directors provide oversight to ensure the UWSA is accountable, forward‑looking, and acting in the best interests of staff.

Here's what your UWSA Board’s been up to
Despite vacations and busy summer schedules, the UWSA Board of Directors continued to meet regularly and make progress throughout the spring 2026 term. Below is an overview of some of the initiatives and projects we've been working on. As always, we remain committed to transparency and welcome your questions, feedback, and engagement.
Elections planning
The Governance and Nominations Committee has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming UWSA elections. The committee approved a new election policy and procedures, and new communications materials have been developed to help explain the election process, highlight the value of serving on the Board or as President, and support prospective candidates. This fall, the committee has also hosted information sessions to answer questions and encourage participation.
Internal policy updates
The Board continues to review and update UWSA policies to ensure they remain effective and relevant. Recent revisions focused on the President’s term and the evaluation process for the President-Elect and President, including how feedback is collected and shared. Additional policy updates are expected over the coming months.
Risk management
The Board and President reviewed the UWSA's risk management framework and plan. As part of this work, the Board formalized regular risk management check-ins to help ensure ongoing compliance with insurance requirements and strengthen organizational oversight.
Documenting dues
The Board approved a dues policy to clearly document the types of payments to which our membership dues apply. The policy creates a transparent framework for dues, formalizes existing practices, and ensures our approach is consistent, equitable, and aligned with common practices across labour organizations. Strategic plan
A committee was established to develop the UWSA's next strategic plan. The committee includes UWSA members, Board directors, and operations staff. Planning discussions are underway, and member surveys and focus groups will be launched shortly. We look forward to sharing more information as this work progresses.
