Term of office: 2025-2028
About Sarah: I’m a recent University of Waterloo MA graduate in Political Science (Canadian politics & health policy) and a Communications & Community Engagement Specialist in the Office of the Associate Academic Vice-President. I lead policy work, run stakeholder focus groups, and work to advance accessibility and equity campus-wide. My personal research targets systemic barriers to endometriosis care across Canada. As a Research Assistant with the Politics of Reproduction Group and a public healthcare advocate, I bring evidence-driven, people-centered leadership to the UWSA.
Reason for running: I chose to run for the UWSA Board of Directors because I care deeply about staff having a strong, organized voice—especially those whose perspectives are too often underrepresented, like contract and early-career staff. I ran for the UWSA Board to amplify staff voices—especially contract and early-career employees who are often left out. As a Waterloo alum and staff member working on policy, accessibility, and engagement in my daily work, I know how powerful collaborative advocacy is. I want staff to feel seen, heard, and backed by a Board that understands their realities.
Vision for the UWSA: My vision is for a Board that is proactive, inclusive, and policy-minded—one that not only responds to staff concerns, but anticipates them. I want to see the UWSA continue growing as a representative body that clearly advocates for contract staff, prioritizes accessibility and inclusion in its own work, and engages in thoughtful dialogue with campus leaders on issues that affect staff working conditions. That means building intentional spaces for consultation, using research and evidence to guide decisions, and communicating clearly so staff understand how and why decisions are made.
