Staff grants

Staff Enhancement Grant

The UWSA’s Staff Enhancement Grant (SEG) provides funding for Staff Association members to pursue personal skills development outside of work.

All UWSA members are eligible to apply, with the exception of current UWSA directors. You can request up to $500 for activities unrelated to job duties or business expenses; the SEG Committee strives to fund at least 50% of all approved applications.

There are two deadlines each year: June 1 and December 1.

Staff Excellence Fund

As part of our compensation package, the University allots $250,000 annually to the Staff Excellence Fund to fund speakers, service recognition, engagement and leadership development, and healthy workplace initiatives.

In order to give staff input into how to allocate the Healthy Workplace Initiatives and the Engagement and Leadership Development initiative, the Provost's Advisory Committee on Staff Compensation (PACSC) has delegated responsibility for generating and reviewing funding proposals to the UWSA.

Proposals can be submitted at any time.

Student awards

UWSA student awards

Each year, the UWSA supports students by offering awards to full- or part-time UW undergraduate and graduate students who are members, or the children, grandchildren, or spouses of UWSA members..

Awards are $500 or $1,000, depending on how much (if any) of the tuition benefit the student receives. $5,000 is available annually.

belairdirect scholarships

The Johnson Inc. Academic Scholarships were established in 1998 by Paul J. Johnson and members of Johnson’s Corporate Leadership Team. Johnson Inc. is now belairdirect insurance, and they are carrying on this generous tradition.

Canadian students who are graduating high school and pursuing post-secondary education in Canada may apply. There is one deadline in July of each year. Each award is valued at $1,000.
