Fundamentals of International Aviation (FoIA) through ICAO is a globally accessible, self-paced online micro-credential pathway delivered through the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in partnership with the University of Waterloo. A collaboration that first launched in 2017, the updated micro-credential programme provides foundational knowledge of the international air transport system through flexible, scenario-based digital learning. Learners may complete individual micro-credentials or combine them to earn the full FoIA programme certification. 

FoIA through ICAO is designed for both emerging and established aviation professionals, as well as learners seeking focused or targeted upskilling. No. FoIA through ICAO is separate from the WISA certification route and does not count toward the International Aviation Sustainability Certification (IASC). Learners who wish to earn the IASC must complete the three-course WISA pathway.
