The Forum cuts across all the SDGs, and aims to promote excellence in research by enabling discussion and debate on climate justice.
The 2nd World Forum on Climate Justice (held entirely virtually) brought together deep, rich and challenging conversations on two of the most pressing issues of modern time; climate change and Covid 19.
It is clear that in order to achieve a climate-just world, we need to address deep-seated societal challenges through transformative change. The 2nd WFCJ (2021) had two leading themes:
1. Climate Justice & COP26
On the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement, there was a need to assess whether and how the global climate governance community can reduce the inequities and injustices of climate change across the planet.
2. Climate Justice & COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted all aspects of social life, with significant consequences for climate resilience, vulnerability, adaptation and mitigation at global, national and local levels. What can we learn from the pandemic in the pursuit of climate justice, and how has the pandemic affected the lived experiences of climate change?
This Forum provided an opportunity to examine, discuss and debate how to ensure equity and justice as core values on the road to developing climate just and sustainable solutions for the benefit of all of humanity and not just the privileged few.
