Mini-Hackathon, Saturday November 9th, 9 am - 7 pm

Our first Mini-Hackathon was a success!

On November 9th, 2024 the Waterloo Chapter hosted their first Technovation Mini-Hackathon! This mini-hackathon is open to girls and gender-diverse students aged 11 – 18 interested in tech entrepreneurship. During the day long event participants formed teams of 5 people, identified an wicked problem related to the one or more of the UN SDGs, came up with an app-based solution, created a paper prototype, and pitched their ideas to a panel of judges, friends, and family.

At the end of the day we had 16 teams (10 Junior, 6 Senior), pitch some incredible ideas!

Thank you to everyone who attended our first mini-hackathon! An extra special shoutout goes out to our volunteers, who without, this event could not have been possible!

Our mini-hackathon was only the first step in creating solutions for some big problems in our world. Hackathon participants have the opportunity to check join the Technovation 12-week program to learn how to code their app and make it a reality! After seeing what the participants were able to accomplish in 7 hours, there is no limited to what they can do given more time and resources. Keep up the amazing work!
