About FLIGHT
2021 - 2025:
FLIGHT (Future Leaders Innovating to Go Higher in Technology) launched in 2021 as a free virtual summer camp introducing tech entrepreneurship to girls and gender-diverse students aged 13–18 who self-identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Colour (BIPOC).
Each year during the final two weeks of July, participants collaborate in teams to develop technology-driven business ideas addressing challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Throughout the program, guest speakers shared industry best practices grounded in the design thinking process, including:
- Problem definition
- Market research
- Prototype development
Dedicated coaches guided teams at every stage of their projects. The program culminated in a final pitch competition, where teams presented their ideas to a panel of judges for feedback and prizes.
FLIGHT also featured a one-day conference focused on professional development, helping students build skills for future academic and career pathways.
2026:
In 2026, FLIGHT is taking its first pause since launching in 2021. Organisers are thoughtfully re-evaluating the camp format to better meet the evolving needs of participants.
In place of the traditional two-week camp, FLIGHT is offering a series of free virtual workshops. These workshops remain open to girls and gender-diverse BIPOC students aged 13–18 and continue to provide opportunities to explore technology.
2027 & Beyond:
More information about FLIGHT’s future programming will be announced in Spring 2027.
