Grace Hopper Celebration Applications Now Open!

Grace Hopper Celebration is the world's largest gathering of women technologists. It is produced by AnitaB.org and presented in partnership with ACM.

This year, Grace Hopper (GHC) will be held in Philadelphia, PA, October 6th – 11th, 2024; please see (https://ghc.anitab.org) for more information about the conference. It's a great opportunity to meet and network with prominent female computer scientists and female undergraduate and graduate computer science students from around the world.

WICS has funding to send about 25 undergraduates and graduate students this year to Grace Hopper. The funding will be allocated based on applications.

Apply for funding via here: https://forms.office.com/r/kmvXinrKKV.

Applications are open to Faculty of Math Students and are due Monday, June 6th, 2024 @ 12 pm ET.

If you have any questions regarding the application, please contact: wics@uwaterloo.ca.

This August, Jane Street is excited to host their Summer INSIGHT program in NYC. They welcome undergraduate women and other gender minorities to apply. They are currently accepting applications for the strategy and product, software engineering and trading tracks. The deadline to apply is Sunday, June 23rd.

If you aren’t a fit for INSIGHT, they run many other programs and events that you may be better suited for. Check out this page throughout the year for updates and information on our various programs and the application processes.

Finally, if you are interested in our 2025 Summer Internship programs, applications will open up in late July! In the meantime, you can sign up to get notified when the role that you are interested in starts accepting applications. We will be looking for interns within Quantitative Trading, Quantitative Research, Software Engineering, Strategy and Product, and more. We hire on a rolling basis. You can also explore our full time roles.

More detailed information about the Summer INSIGHT program is below!

This August, Jane Street is excited to host our INSIGHT program in New York City! We’re inviting students who identify as women, transgender, and gender-expansive to spend four days in our office learning more about what we do and how we do it through a set of trading and programming classes and activities. Attendees will receive an in-depth look into the ways we use math and computer science across our firm to solve problems and foster collaborative thinking. Selected students will arrive in New York on the evening of August 19th and will depart the morning of August 24th. Jane Street will provide all travel to and from New York, including meals, housing, and a variety of social events.

INSIGHT has three different program tracks students can apply for:

  • Trading — students will learn about mathematical and financial topics such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage through a combination of short lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions.
  • Software engineering — students will learn OCaml, the libraries and tools we use in our daily work, and how to put them to use by building a computer game. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of electronic trading systems and write a program that trades on a simulated stock exchange.
  • Strategy and product — attendees will get a glimpse into the work that goes on in our Strategy and Product Internship and Rotational Development Program. Case studies and problem-solving exercises will introduce participants to how we optimize funding and financing, set up new trading flows, respond to regulatory inquiries, and generally manage the complex mechanics that underlie Jane Street’s business.

The deadline to apply for this event is Sunday, June 23rd, 11:59pm EDT. After the deadline, applicants moving on to the next round will receive an invitation to complete a puzzle or coding challenge based on which program track they applied for.

If you have any questions, please email JSINSIGHT@janestreet.com and someone from our team will reach out.
