Janet Passmore says her contributions to the University of Waterloo give her a rare "opportunity to work alongside the professors who were so influential in shaping who I have become." With her hand in various University of Waterloo initiatives, Passmore (BSc '78) has volunteered many hours to the future of the university.

She is currently on the University of Waterloo Board of Governors and is a volunteer for Campaign Waterloo. Passmore is a Waterloo Advisory Council member and is on the Accelerator Centre Entrepreneurship Council. She was also instrumental in securing a donation from the Cowan Foundation for the Firefighter Research Lab.

A former varsity basketball player herself, Passmore recalls the male Warriors national championship victory in 1975 as a favourite Waterloo memory. It was the entire season, however, and the outpouring of support after the tragic death of star centre Mike Moser, that made her realize the University of Waterloo was a special place. "I knew there was something very different about this institution, its values and what it stands for."

After many years in top posts at Clarica and Cowan Insurance, Passmore is now a partner in her own firm - Bright Harbour Partners. The firm specializes in organizational effectiveness. Throughout her professional life, Passmore has also been an active volunteer with community agencies, especially the United Way.
