Deborah Pecoskie was the first young woman in her family to attend university. These days, Pecoskie is sharing 35 years of experience as an education professional on the St. Jerome's University (SJU) Board of Governors.

"The opportunity to study at the University of Waterloo was a milestone event in my life. . . At registration, when asked by Father Zach Ralston what I intended to study, I replied with an energetic list of philosophy, psychology, sociology and theology; not making the distinction between each but eager to learn everything," says Pecoskie.

Pecoskie (BA '72) went on to get a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Toronto. After graduate studies at the University of New York, she became a department head in the Dufferin-Peel District Catholic School Board.

She joined the SJU Board of Governors in 1993 and served as chairperson for six years beginning in 2000. Pecoskie is a long-time donor, most recently donating money to support St. Jerome's Master of Catholic Thought program.

In addition to her volunteer work at St. Jerome's, Pecoskie, an Oakville resident, serves on the board at kidsLINK/Notre Dame of St. Agatha and is the founder and partner of a consulting group called Dynamic Insights.

"Volunteers are often considered to be generous of their time, energy and talent," says Pecoskie. "However, the gifts that I have received both professionally and personally through my volunteer work at the University of Waterloo are immeasurable."
