Rex Auyeung (BES '77)

When Rex Auyeung arrived on campus as an undergraduate student in the 1970s, he expected to earn a degree. What he received, however, was much more. Auyeung (BES '77) watched the young university compete against many well-established universities for the best students. As a young man, he was awed by the University of Waterloo's strength and innovative spirit.

"This truly has given me the motivation in my career," says Auyeung. "I learned to expect and welcome competition, as well as to focus my attention and reach my goals by approaching any task, however difficult, step by step."

Today, he is the senior vice-president and chief executive-Asia at Principal International, Inc. in Hong Kong, China. Despite the distance, Auyeung has remained loyal to the University of Waterloo, with generous donations to the Hong Kong Alumni Trust for promising Hong Kong scholars at the University of Waterloo. He has also established his own scholarship fund.

Auyeung is the honorary chair of Campaign Waterloo's Hong Kong Steering Committee and is involved with the Hong Kong Alumni Association.
