As a founder of Tech Capital Partners Inc., Jackson (BA '92) has provided mentorship and financial support to high-tech entrepreneurs in the area who have created hundreds of jobs locally. "Tim has helped guide the University of Waterloo's evolution into a premier academic institution and a global leader in technology commercialization," says Jacqui Murphy, a Tech Capital colleague who nominated Jackson.
He has also been a tireless Waterloo fundraiser, a key member of a team that raised more than $350 million for the university's capital campaign. Jackson, who graduated from Waterloo's chartered accountancy studies program, has accomplished a tremendous amount in a short period of time. In addition to his professional success, Jackson manages to find time to serve on several community boards, including the Waterloo Public Library and the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
His support of the University of Waterloo includes being a member of the Board of Governors, and the Audit Committee, as well as chairing the Finance and Investment Committee. He is also a founding and advisory council member for the Centre for Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology (CBET).
"The University of Waterloo is one of the most innovative post-secondary institutions in the world," says Jackson. "From the liberal intellectual property policy to the emphasis on co-operative education, the university has a history of doing things differently. Being associated with such a forward-thinking institution is a privilege and an honour."
