As a former vice-chair and chief risk officer for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Wayne Fox spent his career around money. Fortunately for the University of Waterloo students, he has also made it his business to make sure young people have the finances to follow their dreams.

Fox (BA '71) has helped establish a remarkable variety of scholarships for Waterloo students. He endowed the Wayne C. Fox Entrance Award for arts students as well as helping to create six annual CIBC scholarships for outstanding Waterloo students. Fox was behind the development of the CIBC National Scholarship and another CIBC gift that endows a junior chair in the Institute for Quantitative Finance and Insurance. He also secured a large contribution from CIBC for undergraduate students in computer, business and math. Faculty of Arts graduate students are able to benefit from Wayne C. Fox Graduate Scholarships handed out each year.

The former Warrior football player of 1969 received his MBA from McMaster University after graduating from the University of Waterloo. He holds an honorary doctorate from the Hamilton university. McMaster has honoured him by naming a distinguished alumni award after him.

Fox, an Oakville resident, retired from CIBC in 2005. He now spends his time serving as chair of the board of directors of the TSX Group Inc., and as a director of CanadaHelps.org. Inc.
