Homecoming Events

We have an exciting day full of events at this year's Homecoming. See below for arrival times, parking details, and event information.

Fun Run | Saturday | 8 a.m.

We can't wait to see you at one of the longest-standing traditions at the University of Waterloo, the Fun Run!

  • 8 to 9:15 a.m. - Race Day Kit Pickup

REMINDER:

Participants are encouraged to join in on the fun and wear costumes for a chance to win prizes!

The event will include bib tag technology and results will be posted online as part of an official race in the running community.

Warrior Recreation Open House | Saturday | 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Department of Athletics and Recreation warmly invites Waterloo alumni to participate in a variety of great activities throughout the day on campus. Get a grip of our very own rock-climbing wall, take a swing at the Golf Simulator, relax during our yoga session, pump yourself up at a group spin class, or dive into the virtual realm and experience ESPORTS at UWaterloo. 

All activities will be available from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., book your spot below: 

  • Climbing Wall | PAC 
  • Golf Sim | PAC (maximum of four people at a time)
  • Yoga | Field House
  • Spin class | Parking Lot W
  • Esports | Esports Lounge

Instructions and an overview of all programs offered will be provided to each group. Participants will be required to sign a waiver. All climbing equipment will be provided for guests including shoes and harnesses. We ask that all guests wear athletic clothing and bring their own water bottles. Note: Climbing Wall, Golf Sim, Yoga and Spin class have participant limits and pre-registration is required.

By voluntarily participating in the University of Waterloo's athletics and recreation programs, all participants assume risk of injury. The University of Waterloo does not accept responsibility for injury or loss incurred by any person participating in activities organized and administered by the department programs. Each user is responsible for having his/her own personal medical, dental, and hospital coverage. Information about Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) and Mutual Life Assurance Company (Student Supplementary Health Insurance) is available from Health Services. Participants should follow the guidelines below to enhance personal safety:

  • Have annual physical examinations
  • Warm up and cool down slowly (15 minutes before and after activity).
  • Wear proper and safe equipment appropriate for facility conditions (i.e. footwear, eye protection, helmets, etc.)
  • Check equipment / facilities to ensure they are safe and in good condition prior to starting the activity
  • Report any unsafe equipment or facilities to the Service Desk prior to participating in any activity

By voluntarily participating and using Waterloo's athletics facilities, you agree to adhere to and abide by all rules and policies set forth by the department of Athletics and Recreation. Any Athletics and Recreation staff reserves the right to ask you to leave if rules and/or policies are not followed. In the event of an injury or emergency, go to the Service Desk and inform staff of the situation. First Aid kits, AED units and trained assistance can be found at each Service Desk (PAC and CIF).

In consideration of the University of Waterloo allowing me to attend at a University of Waterloo maintained fields, gyms, arenas, pools or other athletic facility, and for other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is acknowledged, I hereby agree as follows:

  1. To waive any and all claims that I have or may have in the future against the University of Waterloo and to release the University of Waterloo from any and all liability for any loss, damage, expense or injury, including death, that I may suffer or that my next of kin may suffer;
  2. To hold harmless and indemnify the University of Waterloo from any and all liability for any damage, loss, claim, action, suit or personal injury resulting, directly or indirectly, from my attendance at a University of Waterloo maintained fields, gyms, arenas, pools or other athletic facility; and

This Acknowledgement shall be effective and binding upon my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators, assigns and representatives. By entering into this Acknowledgement I am not relying on any oral or written representations or statements made by the University of Waterloo with respect to the safety of my attendance at a University of Waterloo maintained field, diamond or other athletic facility. I confirm that I have read and understood this Acknowledgement prior to signing it, and I am aware that by signing this Acknowledgement I am waiving certain legal rights which I or my heirs, next of kin, executors, administrators, assigns and representatives, may have against the University of Waterloo, and that I am signing this Acknowledgement voluntarily, realizing that it is a legally binding document.

EVENT PROGRAM:

  • In addition to learning about the materials Special Collections & Archives collects and how they support teaching, learning, and research, you will discover how these invaluable resources are being made increasingly accessible through online platforms. The workshop will also introduce ways to explore our collections, both digitally and in person, for your own research interests. The session concludes with a guided tour of the stacks, featuring special stops to view rare and unique materials and uncover memorable stories from Waterloo's campus history.

REMINDER:

Food and beverages are not permitted in the Doris Lewis Reading Room.

Coats and bags must be stored in the lockers provided on site prior to entering the Reading Room. A limited number (6) of lockers are available.

Special Collections & Archives is a scent-free space.

Celebrate Homecoming with a special double screening of Rock This Town and Rock This Town: A New Wave at Princess Twin Cinema. Explore Waterloo Region’s vibrant live music history, from the rock concert scene of the 1960s and 1970s to the energy and evolution of the local new wave movement in the 1980s.

Rock This Town, produced by Betty Anne Keller (BA ’69), features the late Joe Recchia (BASc ’68, MASc ’71) and other special guests. Rock This Town: A New Wave was produced by Gary Stewart, who was the BENT programmer on the University of Waterloo campus in the 1980s. Together, these films capture the people, performances and moments that shaped generations of local music fans. Relive the music and memories that made history.

Each year, UWaterloo welcomes thousands of guests, including guest lecturers, politicians, toddlers in daycare, alumni, parents, contractors and co-op employers.
