Having done a few assessments now, I can speak first-hand about how great they are for those of you looking for a career path or those who would like to change your career direction. The most important take away from any assessment is to have developed a better understanding of who you are. Knowing your desires, strengths, personality, and values are all key components to finding a job that suits you.
- Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) - a great tool to understand how you’re wired
- Strong Interest Inventory - looks at your interest levels for six occupational themes
- Advance Pack Skills Cards by SkillScan - indicate skills you’ve gained and enjoy using, skills you’d like to gain, and skills you prefer not to use
- Strengths Finder 2.0 - highlights your top five strengths
All of these assessments have definitely helped me better understand myself and the possible career paths I can pursue. Of course, these aren’t the only assessments out there. Be open to doing a variety of different assessments and you might discover something new about yourself and your interests.
