Written by Tammy Kim (BSc '08, Biology)
As
a
previous
student
at
the
University
of
Waterloo,
I
have
had
many
opportunities
to
open
up
and
get
involved
as
a
student
leader.
During
my
undergrad,
I
worked
as
a
student
caller
for
Advancement,
a
cashier
at
the
bookstore,
and
held
multiple
jobs
in
housing
(front
desk
assistant,
tour
guide
and
Don).
I
also
had
a
great
experience
being
in
the
biology
co-op
program
during
my
studies.
Through
my
co-op
and
my
part-time
jobs
on
campus,
I
realized
I
loved
working
with
people,
in
particular
students
and
knew
I
wanted
that
as
my
career
path.
I
have
been
working
at
the
University
since
the
day
after
my
final
exam
in
2008.
I
worked
in
housing
from
April
2008
–
November
2012
and
since
then
have
worked
in
Co-operative
Education
and
Career
Action
(CECA).
Waterloo
has
given
me
so
much,
and
I
love
helping
students
everyday
as
a
Student
Advisor
for
CECA.
It's
amazing
seeing
all
of
the
great
achievements
our
co-op
students
make
and
their
motivation
to
make
a
difference
continuously
inspires
me.
Whenever
I
get
the
chance,
I
love
helping
out
at
open
houses
and
alumni
events,
because
it's
always
fun
meeting
grads
and
prospective
students,
and
sharing
my
positive
experiences
with
them.
In
my
personal
life,
UWaterloo
has
also
given
me
my
husband!
We
met
in
January
2007
in
a
music
course
(MUSIC
246:
Soundtracks
in
Film),
when
we
randomly
sat
next
to
each
other.
On
Jan.
2,
2012,
my
husband,
Chris
Newman,
proposed
to
me
right
outside
of
Conrad
Grebel,
where
we
took
that
fateful
course.
On
Sat.
Sept.
28,
2013
(yes,
coincidentally
on
UWaterloo's
Reunion),
we
got
married
in
Milton,
ON.
Chris
also
did
both
his
undergrad
and
masters
in
civil
engineering
at
UWaterloo.
Whoever
you
are
and
wherever
you
are
reading
this,
I
hope
you're
just
as
proud
of
your
UWaterloo
roots
and
that
you'll
keep
spreading
the
positive
word
about
this
inspirational
institution.
