UWaterloo Alumni Council: Engaging alumni for a stronger future

Thursday, January 2, 2025

The University of Waterloo Alumni Council (AC) serves as a bridge between the University and the global alumni community, fostering meaningful connections and providing an alumni perspective to enrich both the institution and its graduates. Comprising of 16 volunteer members representing various faculties and colleges, AC is dedicated to enhancing engagement, particularly among Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLDs).

Diana Vangelisti (BES ’84, MA ’89) recently handed over leadership of AC to Lee Anne Doyle (BES ’81).  Here they share what most resonates with them about AC.

Diana Vangelisti

It has been a very rewarding experience for me to volunteer with AC, serving with a group of passionate alumni from across the spectrum of faculties and affiliated colleges.

Over the last year, AC has been tracking our activities that have the greatest impact to the University and our alumni community. We categorize these into the Office of Advancement’s four pillars of giving:

Time: attending meetings, events and celebrations;

Talent: sharing our knowledge and experience through mentoring, coaching and participating in UWaterloo programs where alumni talent is requested;

Treasure: as we are able, supporting the philanthropic efforts led by the office of advancement and;

Testimony: sharing and amplifying our UWaterloo stories and experiences.

As I bring my term as AC chair to a close, I encourage you to reflect on your own 4T activities and share these with your alumni network. In doing so, our UWaterloo voices will continue to amplify. Our collective efforts are more important than ever now as we face ongoing funding challenges resulting in significant operating deficits.

We know UWaterloo as an institution that provides experiential learning, research innovation and global reach. As an alum, I want to do everything I can to keep UWaterloo strong, and I hope you will join me and AC in that effort!

Lee Anne

As the incoming chair, my goal is to ensure AC maintains a strong bridge between the University and the global alumni community.

Our network continues to grow with more than 250,000 alumni worldwide who are connected to the University and alumni community through an established network of global chapters and ambassadors.

We serve and represent the interests of UWaterloo alumni worldwide. We advocate for a stronger, more connected alumni community, wherever you may be.
