"Gerry is a respected leader who cares about the local community and the development of leaders for the future. He is passionate about the youth of Canada and the benefits of education to help drive community and national prosperity," says nominator Allison Illsley.
Remers also serves as a Renison College board member and is actively involved with college fundraising. Through his leadership, four Christie digital projectors have been donated to Renison College. Remers looks to the University of Waterloo as a key recruiting resource, hiring many grads.
"At Christie Digital, we rely on the rich talent base from the university, particularly in arts, engineering and sciences as well as the many co-op students who bring fresh ideas and energy to the workplace," says Remers.
Christie is an innovative company that, together with Texas Instruments, marketed the first Digital Cinema projector, which revolutionized the cinema industry and was the first to be adopted by the Hollywood community.
In addition to his volunteer commitments at Renison, Remers was also a member of the Arts honorary doctorate nominating committee in the 1990s, and is a board member for Shad International, an organization dedicated to providing educational programs for youth. He is also on the board of Communitech and chair of the Kitchener-Waterloo United Way's technology campaign.
