While at the University of Waterloo, Woo developed the Low Vision program at the School of Optometry. He was the founding director of the Centre for Sight Enhancement, which became a national centre under his leadership. He has been a consistent University of Waterloo donor and volunteer for Campaign Waterloo.
He was recently recognized by the American Academy of Optometry, receiving the prestigious William Feinbloom Award. The award is given to an individual who has made a distinguished contribution to the advancement of optometric service. Woo is also president-elect of the World Council of Optometry.
Woo has many fond memories of his time as a faculty member at Waterloo and looks forward to returning to the area when he retires. "All our children grew up in Waterloo," says Woo. "We enjoyed ourselves enormously in those years at the University of Waterloo, and participated in all kinds of activities around the city during that period."
The 1975 national victory for the Warrior basketball team remains a special memory, and Woo looks forward to attending more University of Waterloo games with his grandchildren.
