Ian MacNaughton, Chair of MHBC, has practiced planning and resource management since 1968, and founded MHBC in 1973. MHBC, specializing in land use planning and landscape architecture, has five offices in Kitchener, Toronto, Barrie, London and Kingston. Ian has a Masters of Arts, Regional Planning and Resource Development (1971), University of Waterloo and an Honours Bachelors of Arts, Urban and Regional Planning (1968), University of Waterloo. He is a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and a Registered Planner.

Ian was inducted as a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners in 1998 and recently (2007) received the University of Waterloo's 50th Anniversary Alumni Award. He was "Planner in Residence" at the University of Waterloo School of Planing in 2010.

He has served as a member of the Provincial Smart Growth Central Ontario Strategy Sub-Panel, an alternate on the Greenbelt Task Force, and currently sits on the Province of Ontario Advisory Group on Energy and Economic Development.

He also serves as Chair of Canada's Technology Triangle (CTT), sits on the Board of The Grand River Conservation Foundation, is Past Chair of Governance for Homewood Health Centre, and is a member of Pragma Council, University of Waterloo.
