The University of Waterloo's Associate Vice-President, Academic (AVPA) is David DeVidi. As AVPA, Dave is deeply involved with governance of academic matters at the University of Waterloo, including:
- Oversight of the approval and continuous improvement of undergraduate programs (on behalf of Senate);
- Participation on key leadership committees, including Deans Council, Faculty Relations Committee, Executive Council and an active role in collegial governance bodies like Senate and the Senate Long Range Planning Committee;
- Leadership of Senate Undergraduate Council and the Senate’s University Committee on Student Appeals;
- Oversight of the approval and continuous improvement of non-credit programs aimed at lifelong learners (on behalf of Senate) via the Alternative Credentials Approval Committee;
- Leadership for committees overseeing relationships with Waterloo students, including the Undergraduate Student Relations Committee (with the President of the Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association) and the Student Services Advisory Committee;
- Oversight of academic support units and programs and strategic projects designed to support and advance teaching and learning at Waterloo;
- Leadership of the Undergraduate Operations Committee (with the Registrar);
- Chair of the Distinguished Teacher Award Committee.
In addition to his work in the AVPA office, Dave is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy, with interests including the intersection of metaphysics, logic, and philosophy of mathematics. He has also played a leadership role in collaborative research projects with community organizations supporting autonomy and self-direction for adults with developmental disabilities.
