Ethics in design and development: An overview

Speaker: Dr. Jennifer Boger, Assistant Professor, Systems Design Engineering, University of Waterloo.

Dr. Boger’s research focuses on intelligent technologies for enhancing the safety, health, wellbeing, and independence of older adults and people with disabilities.

Abstract: Creating new ways of solving problems lies at the heart of innovation. As we push the limits of what is possible, we are continually making choices regarding which way to proceed. But how do we decide what the "right" thing to do is, especially when faced with situations where there is no obvious "right" course of action or when courses of action have conflicting priorities? How do our own beliefs influence our decision making? This talk will give a brief introduction to the fascinating and complex topic of ethics and how we can use ethics to enhance innovation.

Please note that this event is only open to faculty, staff, students and post docs.  Please RSVP via EventBrite or contact Parisa Hamilton (parisa.hamilton@uwaterloo.ca) for more information.
