The Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology’s Executive Director, Catherine Burns, has been reappointed to a three-year term.
The appointment of a third term for Professor Burns follows a review of the Centre’s activities over the last three years which includes recognition of her commitment and dedication to furthering CBB’s objectives.
“The leadership of Professor Burns has been pivotal to the Centre’s growth and success,” said Charmaine Dean, Vice-President, University Research. “Among a number of accomplishments, she has expanded Waterloo’s connections to a variety of industry partners including Fortune 500 companies and multinational enterprises. She has grown CBB’s role in the provincial and national biotech and life systems ecosystem by participating in industry associations and consortiums which has, in turn, raised the profile of CBB in the eyes of policy makers. In addition, new initiatives for graduate students developed under her leadership have helped to widen the network of involvement with CBB.”
CBB is a catalyst for advancing bioengineering and biotechnology research and innovation through industry collaboration and partnership. More than 130 faculty members spanning all six faculties are engaged with the Centre and work in collaboration to provide expertise in a variety of areas. CBB’s mandate is to build active partnerships between the Centre’s researchers and corporate members through collaborative projects, mutual interest building, and networking events.
