WATERLOO REGION — There's a bright future in technologies that aim to fix or improve or heal the human body. The University of Waterloo is getting into the game with a new biomedical engineering degree.

The undergraduate degree is meant to help fill an avalanche of health-related jobs predicted for the next decade. Smart kids have figured this out. The question kept coming up at university fairs, asked by bright students hunting for an engineering school. Do you offer biomedical engineering?

"Now it's really nice to be able to say yes," said Maud Gorbet, an assistant professor who helped develop the new degree.
