Trevor Charles honoured with Ontario Genomics Institute SPARK Award

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

CBB member Trevor Charles, a professor of Biology in the Faculty of Science, received a Spark Award from the Ontario Genomics Institute (OGI) for his highly innovative project in the area of bioplastics.

Dr. Charles says that using waste methane as feedstock could lead to the production of valuable renewable materials from a potent greenhouse gas that is a key waste product of landfills and wastewater treatment systems.

The Ontario Genomics Institute identifies, attracts and supports investment in Ontario-led genomics research and commercialisation. Their SPARK program catalyzes new research directions in the early stages. The Charles lab is one of only three Ontario recipients, each of whom received $30,000 in funding.
