Biomedical Engineering program receives six year accreditation

Monday, July 24, 2023

With great excitement and pride, Dr. Maud Gorbet, Professor and Director, Biomedical Engineering (BME) Undergraduate Program has announced that the program has been accredited for the maximum length of six years.

This news comes after a visit from the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) last fall. Accreditation is a continuous effort that requires collecting data and documentation from program instructors, cooperation from the collaborating departments, and significant support from staff.

Dr. Gorbet would like to acknowledge three key individuals whose hard work led to the successful accreditation. Dr. Reem Roufail, collected, synthesized and provided a critical and comprehensive Graduate Attributes (GA) analysis, which will continue to inform our curriculum improvement for the BME program. Lisa Lachuta provided consistent support to the accreditation and GA effort all along. Lastly, to Dr. Bryan Tripp, whose leadership as BME Director set the program into its second successful accreditation.

The BME Program received good recommendations and suggestions from the CEAB team. The BME Program Committee will be working with the feedback in combination with a curriculum renewal to ensure the program provides the future generation of biomedical engineers with the best engineering education to be ready to tackle the complex healthcare and biomedical problems of our communities.

Dr. Gorbet welcomes interest by email on the CEAB feedback and/or curriculum changes.
