Fieldwork on Uganda’s veterinary system earns BME student spot at global finals of complex challenge competition

Gabriel Jabile, a third-year Biomedical Engineering (BME) student, earned one of three top spots in the Canadian Finals of the 2025 Map the System Challenge. His project examines the structural weaknesses of Uganda’s veterinary system and the challenges it faces in preventing and managing livestock disease outbreaks, with research conducted during an internship with Engineers Without Borders. Gabriel will attend the competition global finals at the University of Oxford this summer.
