A fourth-year student team that consists of Joanne Magbitang (4B, Systems Design Engineering), Vincent Shadbolt (4B, Biomedical Engineering), and Haneya Yunus (4B, Biomedical Engineering), has won one of the six top prizes at the annual Norman Esch Entrepreneurship Awards Pitch Competition.
The team presented their Capstone Design Project, Pluto Care, that is meant to simplify the use of serious games in pediatric occupational therapy (POT). Their solution allows for API-based integration of custom serious games into the Pluto Care platform, and then monitoring of treatment progress and visualization of game data via the customizable dashboard.
The team was mentored by Dr. Igor Ivkovic and Dr. Matt Borland, both from System Design Engineering, along with domain experts from the field of occupational therapy as consultants.
The goals of the Esch Foundation include supporting creative and entrepreneurial students in the pursuit of research and development and its commercialization for the benefit of Canada.
