Technical Electives

• Technical (TE) electives are taken throughout a student's undergraduate degree. The number of TEs that you must take to fulfill your degree requirements depends on the year that you began your studies
  • If you began your studies between 2022 and 2025, you must take six technical electives and three complementary studies electives
  • If you began your studies in 2026 or beyond, you must take seven technical electives and two complementary studies electives 
• Society, Technology and Values (STV) electives may count towards your specialization.

The courses that will count towards your specialization will depend on which requirement term you are following:

Resources:

• Academic Calendar — course descriptions, program requirements, and full listings of course offerings by departments. 
• Schedule of Classes — list of available courses being offered in a given term (filtered by program). Offers the ability to see previous terms (back to 2001), which you can use to determine which term a course is likely to be offered in and/or how often a course is typically offered.  
• CEAB Planner — update termly to ensure that you are on track to complete your degree requirements. Useful to plan elective choices in advance, and useful to assist in choosing alternative options if an elective you had previously planned for is unavailable or full (e.g. can help you choose an elective with similar AU distribution to ensure that your points are met for accreditation)
• BME Undergraduate Office — reach out to your Advisor with any additional questions about electives. 

It is in your best interest to avoid using websites like UW Flow as your primary source of information about electives. They are not managed by UW and are not synced with websites like Quest, so they may contain outdated information. These types of websites can be a good starting point, but make sure that you are double-checking the information with the pages linked above.
