Mailing and shipping recommendations in advance of potential work disruption

Thursday, June 23, 2016

Canada Post update on the current labour negotiations with CUPW. While we are all hopeful that an agreement will be reached, there is a possibility that a labour disruption may occur.

  • A formal conciliation period ended at midnight on Friday, June 10. A 21-day “cooling-off” period began immediately thereafter.
  • There can be no legal work disruption until July 2, 2016 at the earliest. And the parties must provide a 72-hour notice before a work disruption can occur.
  • Our goal remains to reach negotiated collective agreements, but we acknowledge that a work disruption is possible.
  • While there is still time to reach new agreements, customers should take precautions as a labour disruption remains a possibility.
  • We are providing customers with as much information as possible in advance of a possible disruption to allow them to make the right decisions for their business.
  • Canada Post will not operate in the event of a full labour disruption. Mail and parcels will not be delivered and no new items will be accepted.
  • Mail and parcels that are in the postal system would be secured for the duration of a disruption, and will be delivered as quickly as possible when we resume operations.
  • Canada Post offers a range of services with varying delivery speeds.
  • Customers are encouraged to send items on or before the dates below to ensure delivery prior to a possible service disruption.
  • There is a possibility that items sent after these dates could be held in the postal system should there be a disruption.
