Two-day Symposium on New Perspectives in Language Education

Call for Proposals
The Centre for Educational Research in Languages and Literacies (CERLL) of OISE-University of Toronto is pleased to announce the second Symposium of Southern Ontario Universities on New Perspectives in Language Education. This symposium is a joint collaboration with:

  • The Department of Language Studies at the University of Toronto Mississauga;
  • The Faculty of Education at Western University;
  • The Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics and the Faculty of Education at York University;
  • The Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies of the University of Waterloo;

This symposium will be held virtually on June 11-12, 2021 and will feature the latest research and findings in Languages and Literacies education.
Theme of the 2021 Symposium: Challenges, Changes, and Chances: The Future of Languages and Literacies Education.

CERLL strives to provide a space for sharing research and creating opportunities for researchers to connect and engage in new collaborations. Our second iteration of the Symposium intends to bring together scholars and graduate students from Universities in Southern Ontario to engage in these collaborative practices and build on the work that was accomplished last year.

The Symposium intends to explore the challenges, changes, and chances that have shaped the future of languages and literacies education in multicultural and multilingual communities across Ontario. The Symposium will be host to various paper presentations and interactive panels in which participants will discuss new research avenues such as, among others, bi-/multi-/plurilingualism in language education, teachers’ and students’ agency, mobility and inclusion, innovation in language teaching methodologies and assessment, technology-assisted additional language learning and teaching, and e-Learning as the new emerging need of this pandemic era.

The Symposium will provide a unique opportunity for scholars (faculty members and graduate students) from universities in Southern Ontario working in language education to learn about each other’s work, exchange ideas and showcase or discuss their research. It will also provide a platform to establish and expand opportunities for academic networking for future collaborations amongst the participating universities. CERLL is pleased to host and facilitate this Symposium for a second year and help strengthen a collaborative network in language education research across Southern Ontario. With plenaries, panel discussions, presentations and poster sessions as well as social events, the Symposium will provide participants with a unique opportunity to become a part of the broader Languages and Literacies education academic community.
