Globe & Mail Article on the Berlin/Kitchener Name Change

Monday, August 29, 2016

The Globe and Mail published an in-depth article on the Berlin/Kitchener name change of 1916. "One hundred years after disappearing, Berlin (Ontario) shows signs of revival" discusses not only the inconsistencies of the name change but also how it differed from renaming York to Toronto or Bytown to Ottawa.

The Waterloo Centre for German Studies is co-hosting a panel discussion with the Kitchener Public Library on the name change. Von Berlin to Kitchener panellists are UWaterloo History professor Geoffrey Hayes (quoted in the Globe and Mail's article), local historian rych mills, and UWaterloo German professor Mat Schulze. You'll find more information and event details on the events listing page.
