Family and Children
Perhaps one of the biggest questions immigrants face when leaving their home country is this: How do I keep my family together? And perhaps the second biggest question is this: How do I pass on my language and culture in the face of this powerful Canadian language and culture? For some, the answer was enrolling their children in German language school. For others, frequent visits home to family. Christmas traditions were also commonly passed down to the next generation. Along with attempting to answer these questions, this chapter also peers into the future to see what advice the project’s participants would like to pass on to future generations.
