Applications are now closed for the 2023 year.

This is the application form for three WCGS awards: the Stork Awards in German Studies, Marga I. Weigel German Study Abroad Award, and the Cecilia and late George Piller Graduate Research Award. For eligibility and other information please visit our student funding pages.

Please provide details on: 1) the program you plan on attending and why you wish to participate in that program; 2) your motivation for studying German; 3) details on any previous experience you've had in a German-speaking country (when, purpose, length of stay). Please submit your letter as a .pdf file; other file formats can't be uploaded. FOR MARGA I. WEIGEL GERMAN STUDY ABROAD AWARD: The letter should be a maximum of one page. Please provide details on: how knowledge of German language and culture will assist you in realizing your career and professional goals. Please submit your letter as a .pdf file; other file formats can't be uploaded. FOR PILLER APPLICANTS: Attach your CV and one-page research project proposal as one .pdf file.

These awards are made possible by generous donations (Stork family; Marga I. Weigel; Cecilia Piller). We want the donors to learn about the impact these awards have. Therefore, award winners are required to provide a "thank-you letter" to their award's respective donors. By clicking yes you agree to provide this letter to the Waterloo Centre for German studies no later than one month after returning from Germany. PILLER AWARDS: upon receipt of the award winners are required by Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs to write a "thank-you letter" detailing how this award will support your research. This letter is to be sent to wcgs@uwaterloo.ca and will be forwarded to the Graduate Studies Awards office.
