Summary
The theme for the 2011 Research Retreat was "Workplace Interventions: Successes and Challenges" and was hosted by David Andrews at the University of Windsor. Many thanks go out to the faculty, staff and students who assisted with the planning and organizing of the Retreat. The event was very well attended by about 50 researchers and students.
The Retreat began with the keynote address "Ergonomics program implementation continuum: A sustainable solution in reducing musculoskeletal disorders & slips, trips and falls" delivered by Patti Boucher, vice president of the Public Services Health & Safety Association.
CRE-MSD researchers shared their experiences of research involving stakeholders and the successes and challenges encountered. These stories proved to be enlightening and thought provoking. Researchers who presented included Alan Salmoni, Trevor King and Dwayne Van Eerd, Ivan Steenstra, Jim Potvin, Andrew Laing, Patrick Neumann and Sylvain Grenier.
The facilitated panel discussion that followed was entitled "Taking lab-based research into industry: What is needed to make the leap?". We heard from Philip Bigelow, Jack Callaghan, Peter Keir, Richard Wells, and Peter Frise, CEO and scientific director of AUTO21, who offered some insights from the auto industry on taking lab-based research into industry.
