Lead: The 88 students in my regular chemistry classes at Boston Latin Academy, a public exam high school, created two periodic table squares each. One square was an element unique to them and the other was lead. I selected lead because in my previous career, I worked on many hazardous waste sites contaminated with lead. My classes will make a periodic table with the individual squares to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry. This lead square, created by 11th grader Katy Carchedi, represents sources of lead in household drinking water which is a public health problem in buildings with older pipes containing lead solder.
