Why graduate studies in Chemistry?

With more than 150 graduate students and 40 faculty members, graduate studies in Chemistry at Waterloo is one of the largest programs in Canada. 

Research in Chemistry addresses a broad range of topics relevant to life and environmental sciences, from the development of new materials and nanotechnology to improving our fundamental understanding of the world around us. Our programs prepare graduate students for fascinating careers in industry, government, and academia.

Where do you fit in?

The Master of Science (MSc) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Waterloo rank among the top in the country and offer exposure to world-class research on many subjects, including those in the core areas of analytical, inorganic, organic, practical, theoretical, and polymer chemistry as well as biochemistry, quantum information, and nanotechnology.

We also participate in the collaborative MSc and PhD programs in Nanotechnology, the first of their kind in Canada, and Quantum Information, in collaboration with the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC).
