Abstract:

Perfect state transfer provides a tool physicists might use to move information from one node to another in a network of qubits. For graph theorists, the network is modelled by a graph, and the concept of perfect state transfer provides a very interesting relation on pairs of vertices in a graph. We now a have reasonably well-developed theory characterizing the cases where perfect state transfer between vertices is possible.

In this talk I will show that this theory works because the density matrices of the states involved in the transfer are real, and not because they are localized at vertices. We will see that the more general situation is easier to analyse, and that its study leads to a number of interesting questions.
