In this talk, we will present an asymptotic result about the number of connected 3-uniform hypergraphs with n vertices and m edges. We will discuss the range m=n/2+o(n). Our strategy makes use of random hypergraphs and it is similar to Pittel and Wormald's approach to obtain an asymptotic formula for the number of connected graphs with given number of vertices and edges.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is centralized within our Indigenous Initiatives Office.
