Rota's Conjecture and nested separations in matroids

Speaker: Jim Geelen

Room: Mathematics & Computer Building (MC) 5158

Abstract:

Rota's Conjecture is, possibly, the most famous open problem in matroid theory. We will discuss an interesting and useful partial result obtained with Shalev Ben-David. We also discuss how the main ingredient in the proof of that partial result may help towards a complete solution of Rota's Conjecture.

No prior knowledge of matroid theory is required.
