David Qian's work at SickKids Hospital featured in Maclean's

David Qian's research on applying optimization methods to determine the placement of cuts for a particular form of skull surgery called Cranial Vault Remodeling was featured in a February 2018 article of Maclean's. David's work was done with Professors Ricardo Fukasawa and Jochen Koenemann and C&O graduate student Andre Linhares in collaboration with medical staff at Toronto's SickKids hospital. An article on their work was published in the Journal of Craniofacial Surgery.

David Qian completed B.Math. (2011) and M.Math. (2013) degrees in Combinatorics & Optimization at the University of Waterloo. His Master's thesis, supervised by Professor Ricardo Fukasawa, was titled "Dynamic Programming: Salesman to Surgeon". David presently works as a software engineer in the Toronto office of Amazon.
