Professor Debbie Leung has been appointed a University Research Chair.
Debbie is a world-renowned researcher in quantum information science. Her explorations of Hilbert space have driven many key developments including approximate quantum error correction, one-bit teleportation, quantum data hiding, locking, composable security proofs for quantum cryptography, and a deeper understanding of quantum communication. Further afield, some of these counterintuitive discoveries have had far-reaching implications for many-body physics, the black-hole information paradox, and satellite communications.
Debbie is a professor in the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization, and also a member of the Institute for Quantum Computing. She has held a Canada Research Chair from 2005 to 2015. Her University Research Chair appointment will be held from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2022.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
