Ricardo Fukasawa
Congratulations to Ricardo Fukasawa in the University of Waterloo Department of Combinatorics and Optimization, recipient of an Early Researcher Award.

The title of his funded project was "Increasing the applicability of mixed-integer programming".

Description: There is a huge volume of information available today to enterprises of all kinds, made possible by developments in information technology. Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP) is an important technique that is used for exploiting this information in a quantitative approach to decision making.

Professor Fukasawa's research proposes novel methods that have the potential to significantly improve the performance of MIP techniques. These improvements will bring enormous benefits to numerous application fields, ranging from logistics and finance to healthcare and forestry. His research advances the state-of-the-art on MIP techniques and also proposes a novel application of them in surgeries to correct cranial deformities on children.
