Professor
Levent
Tuncel
has
been
awarded
a
five-year
Faculty
of
Mathematics
Research
Chair.
The
award
recognizes
Levent's exceptional
scholarly
achievements
and
pre-eminence
in
the
field
of
optimization.
Levent
will
receive
a
$250,000
research
grant,
and
a
teaching
reduction
of
one
course
per
year.
Professor
Tuncel's
research
is
in
mathematical
optimization,
more
specifically
in
convex
optimization,
interior-point
methods,
and
discrete
optimization.
He is
a
co-author
(with
Bertrand
Guenin
and
Jochen
Koenemann) of
A
Gentle
Introduction
to
Optimization,
and
author
of
Polyhedral
and
Semidefinite Programming
Methods
in
Combinatorial
Optimization.
Professor
Tuncel
is
Co-Editor
of
the
journal
Mathematical
Programming
A,
and
Associate
Editor
of
Journal
of
Optimization
Theory
and
Applications
and
SIAM
Journal
on
Optimization.
In
2014,
he
received
a
University
of
Waterloo
Distinguished
Teacher
Award.
