Alexander (Lex) Schrijver, of CWI, Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam, was awarded an honorary degree at the June 2002 convocation at the University of Waterloo. Professor Schrijver is one of the world's leading researchers in discrete optimization, as well as the subject's foremost scholar. Professor Schrijver is the author of the landmark books: Theory of Linear and Integer Programming and the three-volume Combinatorial Optimization: Polyhedra and Efficiency.
