Former C&O faculty member Ronald (Ron) Read died on January 7, 2019 at the age of 94.
Professor Read joined the University of Waterloo in 1970 and retired in 1990. His fields of research included the enumeration of graphs, and the study of chromatic polynomials and graph isomorphism. He was also a pioneer in the use of computers in graph-theoretic research. Professor Read was well known for his 1968 conjecture that the sequence of absolute values of the coefficients of a graph's chromatic polynomial is unimodal. Read's conjecture was proven forty-two years later by June Huh.
A memorial service will be held on January 12 (Saturday), 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm, at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home Inc. in Oakville, Ontario.
