Scott Vanstone receives an Honourary Lifetime Achievement Award

Canadian Technology Leaders Award
Scott Vanstone was awarded an Honourary Lifetime Achievement Award at the Canadian Technology Leaders Awards ceremony held at The Distillery Historic District in Toronto. The award was presented by John Tory to Scott's wife, Sherry Shannon-Vanstone.

Scott co-founded Certicom Corp. in 1985 with Professors Gord Agnew and Ron Mullin. He played an instrumental role in the study, development, and commercialization of elliptic curve cryptography. Certicom Corp. was acquired by BlackBerry in 2009. In 2012, Scott and Sherry Shannon-Vanstone co-founded TrustPoint Innovation Technologies, a provider of services and products for secure machine-to-machine communications.

Scott was a professor in the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization and St. Jerome's University from 1974 until his retirement in 2009. Since 2009 he was distinguished professor emeritus at the University of Waterloo. He passed away on March 2, 2014.
