In research, Professor Schellenberg was very successful, publishing about 40 scholarly papers. In teaching, he was also very successful; his file is filled with glowing testimonials from chairs and associate deans. But it was in service - to the department, faculty and university - that he was really remarkable. He served for 14 years as a high-level academic administrator, including nine years as department chair, four-and-a-half years as associate dean, and six months as acting dean of mathematics.
