Open Call for WICI Steering Committee Representation

Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation is seeking a WICI affiliate faculty member and/or WICI graduate student member (new members welcome), who are interested in complex systems research and enthusiastic about supporting networking and capacity building activities at University of Waterloo, for Steering Committee Representation. Expressions of interest are due April 22, 2022.

WICI is a member-led and member-driven research and networking hub that promotes innovative training and application of complex systems tools and theories to address challenges essential to human well-being, including those at the intersection of society, health, and environment. As we begin our third 5-year term in 2021, WICI will pursue and develop emerging opportunities focused on research collaborations, education and training, while continuing to offer a regular series of WICI talks and/or webinars, working groups, workshops, and small grant supports for complex systems research development.

Service on WICI’s Steering Committee is voluntary, and is designed to provide advice to the Director, Associate Director, and the Vice-President, University Research on matters relating to the regular operations of WICI, including its annual budget, major activities and strategic planning. Committee members are asked to support WICI activities, act as a liaison to promote WICI among faculty and students, and participate in three to four administrative meetings per year, including an annual joint meeting of the Board and Steering Committee. Correspondence between meetings may be required.

The Steering Committee consists of:

  • WICI Director;
  • WICI Associate Director;
  • WISIR Director (effective 2021);
  • WICI Administrative Coordinator;
  • Two or more WICI core members representing different faculties; and
  • One or two additional members drawn from the university faculty, representing participating faculties.

Interested parties can please email Brenda Panasiak, Administrative Coordinator, (bpanasia@uwaterloo.ca) with a brief note of interest, by April 22, 2022. Those requesting to join WICI as new members are also asked to submit a letter demonstrating an active interest in complex systems science along with a current CV. New affiliate members will be contacted to provide a high resolution photo, short bio and list of keywords for the membership database and website.
